CrossFit Games Pro Tips

So You Wanna Go to the CrossFit Games

The top 3 things you need to know if you are thinking
about going to the Games for the first time:

1. BOOK YOUR HOTEL NOW. If you are reading this, it means you are at least *thinking* about going to the Games, which means you need to figure out your lodging situation ASAP. Joy booked her hotel room in December and already found that most downtown hotels were full. This far out, there is very little risk for you to snag a room or an Airbnb, since most places will let you cancel a reservation without penalty more than 30 days out (of course, check the cancellation policy before you book). Really, just go book something right now. We’ll wait.

2. There are two types of tickets: General Admission and Coliseum. GA tickets are about $100 for the full weekend (based on last year’s prices), while Coliseum tickets start at around $250 per day. GA gets you access to the vendor village, most of the teens and masters events, about 1/2 of the team events, and about 1/3 of the individual events. Basically, anything that isn’t happening in the Coliseum. The Coliseum events are the “under the lights” events, which include a handful of daytime and most evening events, and require a separate ticket. These are pretty expensive and sell out quickly. In our experience, especially if you will have kids with you, GA is enough to get the Games “experience,” but if you are really there to see the nail-biter events, then you will want to try to get Coliseum tickets.

3. CrossFit Games tickets will go on sale this year on April 26, 2018. Make sure you know ahead of time exactly which types of tickets you want to get. GA usually don’t sell out because the venue is like a big fairground, but the Coliseum tickets will be gone within the first day–if not the first few hours. So you will need to be on the ball if you want Coliseum tickets. If you are a member of an affiliate and have a good relationship with your gym owner, it may be worth talking to them if you want Coliseum tickets. Affiliate owners get access to a limited number of pre-sale tickets before they go on sale to the public, and she/he may be willing to let you piggyback on their pre-sale access.
